Fabric Galore!

The latest additions to my happy fabric family

Every time S or close friends go to America on business, I sneak in a fabric order or two (or six...) to arrive at their hotels. S just got back from America and I am still drooling over my latest orders. The orders included some delicious fat quarter solid selections, a few Lizzy House favourites and various Cloud9 (loving the little foxes) prints. Although I had trouble finding space for all of this new fabric in my little sewing room, I am sure it won't be long before I put in my next order...fabric addict!!

This is still only a quilt top, but I wanted to share it with you, mainly because I have no idea when I am going to get around to quilting it!

For years I have been a kind of modern quilt puritan. I refused to use patterns or well known blocks in my quilts and was determined to design everything myself. One of my resolutions for 2014 (not related to weight loss or exercise) was to be a bit more gentle with myself and make a few quilts, following patterns and/or using some tried and tested blocks. This "plus" quilt was one of those projects. I love the colours and the fabric, but I wish I had made smaller squares. This is just a small quilt for my three-year old son to snuggle under while watching TV or reading a book, and the 6'' squares I used for it are a bit too big.

Here is a close-up of some of the fabric I used. This lovely teal fabric with the laboratory paraphernalia is from Birch Fabric's Robotic collection.

Then we have this really cool dark teal "abacus" fabric from the Mod Basics series also by Birch Organic Fabrics, a grey atomic fabric from Wilmington Fabric's Atomic Bots collection, and the fabric with the orange dots is from Hooty Hoot Returns by Riley Blake. (The grey solid visible in the bottom left corner is a lovely shade called "manatee" from Free Spirit).
